Dear Cass Lake-Bena Community,
I’d like to take a moment to share an update regarding a situation at our middle school and to keep you informed.
Today, March 24, several middle school students reported that a middle school student (Student A) had made a threat toward another student. The threat was initially made via social media and later included verbal statements indicating an intent to bring a weapon to school on March 25 and harm another student.
Earlier on March 24, Student A had already undergone a search for unrelated reasons. As a result, school administration had confirmed that no weapon was present at school today.
Upon receiving the reports, school administration immediately initiated an investigation in partnership with Cass County law enforcement. That investigation has resulted in an arrest, and additional school disciplinary actions will be imposed in accordance with district policy.
I want to be very clear: no weapon was brought onto school grounds.
We are grateful to the students who came forward and reported this information. Their actions reflect the importance of looking out for one another and speaking up when something does not feel right. I also want to thank our middle school administration and Cass County law enforcement for their swift and thorough response.
The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We will continue to take all threats seriously and act promptly to ensure a safe learning environment.
Sincerely,
Sue Chase, Superintendent
