The district has been made aware of an incident that occurred in the community on the evening of June 4 involving several young people, some of whom are students at Cass Lake-Bena Schools. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has released a public statement regarding the incident and ongoing investigation.

We understand that situations like this can create concern for students, families, and community members. Out of an abundance of caution, we are working closely with local and state law enforcement agencies to enhance safety measures for tonight’s graduation parade and ceremony. Additional law enforcement officers will be present throughout the evening, and the Minnesota State Patrol will have an increased presence during the parade and afterward.

Tonight should be a time of pride, celebration, and joy for our graduates and their families. We are asking everyone in our community to help make that possible by being active partners in ensuring a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all who attend. Please look out for one another, report concerns, and help us keep the focus where it belongs — on honoring the accomplishments and bright futures of our seniors.

Our schools and school events should always be places where students, families, elders, and community members feel safe, welcomed, and supported. Together, we can ensure that tonight remains a meaningful celebration for the Class of 2026 and everyone who has helped them reach this milestone.
