📣 Free Early Childhood Screening at Cass Lake-Bena Elementary!

Families with children ages 3–5 are invited to schedule a free, complete early childhood screening on August 3 or August 4.

Each screening takes approximately 1.5 hours and includes a review of your child’s health history and immunizations, vision and hearing checks, developmental screening, height and weight measurements, and social-emotional screening. Results will be reviewed with you when the screening is complete.

Early childhood screening helps families better understand their child’s growth and development and is required by Minnesota law before a child enters kindergarten.

📅 August 3: 2:00–6:00 p.m.
📅 August 4: 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

To schedule an appointment, call (218) 335-2201 and press 4 for Elementary.

Please bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate. We look forward to welcoming you and your child to Cass Lake-Bena Elementary! ❤️🖤

📢 Community Feedback Requested: Middle School Academic Eligibility Proposal

Cass Lake-Bena Schools is seeking feedback from parents, guardians, students, staff, and community members regarding a proposed change to the academic eligibility policy for middle school students participating in junior high athletics and activities.

The goal of the proposal is to maintain academic accountability while providing additional support for middle school students as they develop positive academic habits and responsibility.

Under the proposal, middle school students with one or more grades of D- or lower would be placed on a Middle School Academic Support Plan rather than immediately becoming ineligible.

Students would be required to:
✅ Attend tutoring two times per week
✅ Complete a weekly academic grade sheet
✅ Communicate with teachers regarding missing work or low grades
✅ Demonstrate a good-faith effort to improve academically
✅ Remain in good standing with their team or activity

Students who do not complete the required support steps would become ineligible until the next weekly eligibility review.

This proposal would apply only to middle school students participating in junior high activities. Students participating at the high school level would continue to follow the current high school academic eligibility policy.

The district will also host a public forum in July, with the date and time to be announced, to provide an opportunity for community members to ask questions and share feedback.

📋 Please complete the survey and share your thoughts:

https://forms.gle/ntPhEJxdinWcJJH96

Your feedback will help guide the district's decision-making process as we work to support both academic success and student involvement.
