I want to share important information about a situation that occurred today at the Area Learning Center and the steps taken to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
This morning (Wednesday) , ALC administration received a report that some students believed they had seen another student walking away from the bus stop with what appeared to be a weapon on Monday after school. The ALC immediately notified district administration and law enforcement, and an investigation began.
At approximately 12:30 p.m. today, additional information was shared with administrators regarding social media posts made by the same student. Out of an abundance of caution, the ALC moved into a shelter-in-place while the investigation continued.
Working together, district staff and law enforcement ensured that the student in question was secured immediately upon arrival at school at about 1:00 p.m. The student did not have a weapon with them today. During the course of the investigation, the item in question was recovered and determined to be a BB gun designed to resemble a GLOCK-style handgun.
I know situations like this can be unsettling. Please know we take every report seriously and will always act quickly in partnership with law enforcement to protect our school community. I appreciate the students and adults who came forward to share information, allowing us to respond promptly. ALC staff will be here to welcome students tomorrow (Thursday).
Because this matter remains under investigation, we are not able to release additional details at this time. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your school administration.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we work together to keep our schools safe.
Sincerely,
Sue Richards-Chase
Superintendent of Schools

This month, our middle school makerspace turned into an engineering lab! Students were divided into teams and given identical supplies—then challenged to design and build a bridge spanning 12 inches.
The goal? Build the strongest bridge possible and see how much weight it can hold!
Students tested ideas, problem-solved, redesigned, and learned that teamwork and creativity are just as important as strength. It was exciting to watch their designs come to life—and even more exciting to see whose bridge held the most weight!
👏 Great work to all our student engineers!

On January 22, 2026 Charles Grolla held a moccasin game tournament at CLB High School. According to one of our students, the moccasin game was played by our Native American ancestors., it is a game of healing, that was traditionally played at cultural events. It usually begins with a ceremony and a feast, followed by gameplay. It is very engaging and requires thinking, strategy, guessing and a little bit of luck. Students say they always look forward to these tournaments because it promotes community gathering and it helps preserve our Native language and traditions.

Our Panthers are on the road tonight at Red Lake. Good luck to all teams competing.
