Shining Star Agenda
Due to low participation numbers this season, we will not be running a C-Team for Boys Basketball.

This decision comes after reviewing our roster numbers at each level and considering player safety, coaching capacity, and the overall quality of the experience we can provide. With our current numbers, adding a C-Team would stretch players and coaches too thin and negatively impact all levels.

What this means for our athletes:

Players who would have been on C-Team will still be part of the Panther Boys Basketball program.

They will practice with the appropriate group (JV/Varsity pods, based on grade and readiness).

Coaches will focus on skill development, effort, and readiness for game opportunities at the JV level when appropriate.

We know this may be disappointing for some families, and this decision was not made lightly. We will continue to monitor participation and revisit a C-Team in future seasons if numbers allow.

If you have questions about how this affects your student-athlete, please reach out:

Panther Cross Country
Panther Cross Country started its season training in early August, competed in 8 regular season meets, and finished its season at the Section 8A Championship.
The team made its biggest marks on the biggest stages this season. The Conference Championships saw every Panther runner on the Junior High and Varsity Teams set Personal Records and had its first All-Conference runner. The team followed up with an amazing first team run at the section championship, outpacing many other larger and more experienced programs.

The team nicknamed the “Men In Black” not only made a name for themselves in the standings as the season progressed, but amongst opposing runners and coaches as well. The boys in their black Cass Lake-Bena uniforms earned their place as a team to watch and runners to be respected for their competitiveness and sportsmanship.

There were many stand out moments:
Markis Washington’s run to earn All-Conference Honors.
Zane Halse and his race streak of setting personal record after personal record.
Kenny Litzau took over a minute off his time to anchor the Section Team.
Fabian Wittner and his Junior High Championship dual at the Pine River Invitational with Cromwell’s Christopher Gatica.
Brayden Dahl’s return to the team for an amazing run at the Section Championship.
8th Grader Dashawn Oquist’s progress is Varsity worthy.
7th Grader Gavin Fineday cut 2 minutes off his PR, proud of his effort he said “I am absolutely proud of myself!”

After the Section Championship, the coaches and runners met and celebrated their great season. But these boys are competitors and talk soon turned to next season. They talked about goals and potential, individual and team: Running the times it takes to make it to the State Championship, bringing home more All-Conference awards, training to compete with the best teams in the conference and section.

As just Freshman and 8th graders, they proved to themselves and other competitors they belonged amongst the best. Just a few seconds and a few places separated this young group from the top teams in the Section. Watching these young Panthers shift from “I don’t know if I can” to “I know I can” is more than a moment of pride—-it’s the awakening of their inner strength.

These accomplishments are a credit to each runner’s talent, determination, character, and commitment to the team but also a testament to the athletic potential within Cass-Lake Bena. We believe in the talent in this community and the ability to be successful in Cross Country.

Panther Cross Country is on the Rise, and the program would love to add more runners to both our Boys and Girls Teams. Cross Country is for Everyone! Whether a competitive runner, an athlete wanting to improve your physical and mental conditioning for another sport, or someone who just wants to be part of a fun team and sport, all are invited to check out Cross Country!

From the runners and coaches–thank you.
To our parents, families, school staff, and the entire Cass-Lake Bena community, your encouragement at meets, your cheers, your support at school, and messages of encouragement on social media has meant MORE than you will ever know.

You’ve helped our runners believe in what Panther Cross Country can become and most importantly believe in themselves.
