In Progress will provide a series of portraiture activities to students of all ages and their families. A guardian will need to remain with youth 12 and under. We will accept 10 students from CL-B and 10 from the Bugonaygeshig School. Day 1: getting to know the artists and history of work, develop an understanding of angles, composition, setting up backdrops, work with lights and cameras AND LOTS OF PRACTICE. Day 2: all participants will invite their friends and families to come and have their portraits taken. Students will assist each others relatives in posing and arrangements. Some of the CLB Speech Squad hopped on a bus at 5 AM on Saturday and made their way to DGF to show off their speaking skills. They were led by senior Eowyn Post (5th place medal in Ex Speaking) and 8th grader Lily Chessmore (8th place ribbon of Excellence in Poetry).

On 02/15&16/2025 and 03/15&16/2025 the gifted duo of the "Quillionaire Society" will be here to present to our community the ways that our Ancestors honored and used the quills from the porcupine. They will take registered participants all the way through from introductory to advanced techniques. Participants will leave the workshop with two (2) completed quill projects. All participants must be ages 12+ and remain on site for the duration of the workshop in order to finish. Priority will be: 1. Current Cass Lake Bena students, age 12+ 2. One of the current students household member 3. Community member residing within the CL-B School District Space is limited. Mark your calendars for this workshop- COMET (Changing Our Mental and Emotional Trajectory) is a two-hour interactive training that teaches participants how to reach out in a meaningful, respectful and supportive way to friends, co-workers or acquaintances who seem to be struggling somewhere between wellness and a mental health crisis. While designed for rural and farming communities, it can also be used in urban and suburban settings. Often, we want to support our friends, neighbors and colleagues in times of need but may not know how. COMET empowers us to be more prepared to support others’ mental health needs — especially before a crisis. This training doesn’t expect community members to “fix it,” but instead trains people to feel comfortable initiating a supportive and potentially emotional conversation by using a simple seven-question guide. The questions were developed using evidence-based techniques. The question guide: provides an easy way to start a conversation, teaches you how to exit the conversation in a supportive way, and offers resources to share with others if they need more than a listening ear. These trainings are offered in partnership with Minnesota Department of Health and Minnesota Department of Agriculture.

Family Night for Girls Basketball will take place on 2/11 vs WHA. The ceremony will take place right before the V GBB game. Please be here by 6:45.

The ALC staff and students had a return visit from Pierre from Italy. This is the 3rd year he has come to visit. He talked to the school about geography, government and food the difference of Ragu in the jar and what they have at home. With the magic of Google Earth, the students were able to get a walking tour of Ravenna,Italy, by an italian tour guide. Thank you, Pierre. We hope to see you again next year.

One point of clarification for tonight's game in MIB. The 7th grade will be starting at 5:30 not 5:45.
